December, 2019: Part 1

Updated: Feb 26, 2022

The trip to Amritsar wasn’t planned to be all spiritual like it might sound to be. The major highlight of visiting the surreal beautiful Golden Temple wasn’t the only one. Another one was yet to come.

Despite living in the Northern plains all my life, for an uncertain reason, the past six months in Bombay stood out more. I was surprised to find out how readily and quickly my body had adapted to the all-time pleasant and merry weather in Bombay like books describe it to be, besides the forever humidity in the mood of the air and make me feel like I’ve never stepped out in the cold month of December, amidst the super chill vibes. The ever-freezing wind felt different this time whenever it’d blow through my hair, giving me yet another chill down my spine.

On reaching the area where the Temple was located since hundreds of years, to me,

I could not stop admiring the epic historical beauty that stood right in-front of me. It seemed to me as if I’ve never seen something more beautiful.

Pure gold. Historically gorgeous.

In that second, it seemed as if I had forgotten all the incredible sights of the world that I’ve heard of- like the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower. 'The pictures people take of this great aesthetic monument are so underrated', was a recurring feeling in my gut. It’s just so much more appealing to the eye in the moment, I knew I would not have been happier.

As I stood there in the queue to be able to reach the main entrance of the prestigious monument, there were television screens that displayed the Holy words from the Guru Granth Sahib. In that moment, I felt blessed by the fact that I was standing there. Also, privileged to be able to get an opportunity to read, write and understand the ever glorious language that Punjabi is. As cultural as it is, the beauty of this language stays undefined. And the fact how beautifully the meaning of certain words or sentences in this language come out to be, provide comfort to my mind.

It was unbelievably cold, yet the chilly temperature was worth it.

I wondered why was it the first time I was ever witnessing this beauty.

you have given me a completely new perspective to look at harmandir sahab. The simile you used to compare it with the two wonders of the world was enthralling😊 and the choice of your words to describe the freezing cold of punjab in winters was a little over dramatic and romanticizing 😋. The one thing i wish you would have talked about here was the world famous ‘kada prasad’ but i hope you will bring it up in part 2 and i apologize for my patience if it was already on your radar🙈. really excited and looking forward to part 2
